Welcome to MARCH!! I get so excited when March arrives, because it means we’re only weeks from Spring….only 3 more garbage day til spring!! YAY!

Sewing….my other creative outlet…

For the past year I’ve bee dabbling in some sewing. I made my first quilt last summer for my daughter, I sewed a pair of shorts,

and I also made MANY tote bags…some I have sold AND other given as gifts for friends and family members. I enjoy sewing so much, almost as much a scrapbooking. I find that sometimes, I need a break in the paper craft, and then sewing fills that creative void. It’s funny, because shopping for fabric is a LOT like shopping for fabric. Lots of textures, colors, and patterns! So many varieties to choose from. Check out this beautiful palette of fabrics from Fat Quarter Shop, for example….

So gorgeous! And did you know that there’s also Basic Grey fabric, and Cosmo Cricket fabric too? And we all know about the beautiful Amy Butler fabric!

Anyway, here are my latest tote bags that I am adding to my blog to sell. You can find the link to these bags at the top of my blog, directly below the header.

This one is a favorite of mine! I made 4 bags like this for Christmas gifts.

….I made this bag for my sister! See the musical note fabric? LOVE! (and she loved it too….)

And this next one is perfect for a little girl bag! Or for a big girl too! I gave this one to my 12 yr old niece.

I really loved how this one turned out too.

I made this next one for my friend’s little girl.

Well, Isn’t it ironic that I’m posting this summery layout on this….a snow day! lol I guess I’m just a little anxious for winter to be over and for summer to come quickly! Hopefully the snow we’re getting today does not last long…..hopefully….

I created another layout this week using fabulous goodies from LCOM! LOVE that online store!! It’s the best place to shop for all your scrappy needs, you know!

I used goodies from the October Afternoon – Sidewalks line!

What amazing papers and chipboard and pendants, and ribbon! I also used this little package of goodies….also from October Afternoon…..package of Miscellany goodies! This package goes so far!

I’m still stuck on Valentine’s Day as you can see from this LO I created today!

I gave both the girls a miniature Sock Monkey for Valentine’s Day and they both loved it! As you can see by Sara’s excited face here in this pic, she was happy to have me capture it!

See how I used the Crate Paper Peppermint line for this Valentine’s LO? It works perfectly, I think. I got this paper line at LCOM!

I decided on this title since it was a challenge at LCOM …..part of the 8 weeks / 8 challenges they have happening over there. Actually the 8 challenges now turned into 10 and I’m halfway done! I’m going to try and get the rest done but I’m not so sure of it since I have been fighting an awful head cold for the past 3 days!

But..I have to say that these challenges have certainly got my mojo flowing once again after a long stint of NOTHINGNESS in the creativity department! lol

Anyway, that’s it for today!

Yep! Time for more pictures! I have been participating in 'my365' since the beginning of this year and it's actually quite fun seeing a photo everyday!

Here are a few pics of my week!

1. Expecting a lot of snow

2. Me being cool/cold in my car (I realized that it looks like I'm in the passenger seat but that's just the way the iPhone reverses the photo when I do a self shot.

3. I had to recertify CPR...do this once a year.

Snowman Family!

Good morning and welcome to 2012!! Here it is the 3rd day of January! And I’m sharing with you, my very FIRST project of 2012! How special is that?

I have some amazing goodies from LCOM to play with this month! Lots of fun stuff from the Crate Paper Peppermint line! YUM!!! It looks good enough to eat!

For this LO I used the paper, chipboard stickers, and diecut border stickers! I have so much more to play with with this collection!

I also used a lazer cutout snowflake from a Canadian Company called Engravit! I actually received a goodies package from them for doing a cover LO challenge for Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine!
I used some of my white Studio Calico Mister Huey to create a snowy background on my paper! And I used my new sewing machine to add some fun stitching!

This is the season of counting the days until Christmas! And I love doing this as much as any child! Each year I try to find a fun way for my girls to count down to Christmas because it just makes the wait a little easier!

Here's what I made....and I should say that they each helped me with decorating it too!

I bought a wooden Advent calendar last year at Michael's and decided that I would change it up a little to suit my style. (because I'm posting this via my phone all the photos will be at the end of my post)

For this project I used a bunch of items from the LCOM shop!!

- Fancy Pants Saint Nick papers
- Fancy Pants Saint Nick rub-ons
- The Twinery twine
- Shabby Chic fall Mini Artisan Numbers
- And a BIG mix of Thickers from my collection/a different color and font for each number. That is the part each of my girls had the most fun with- picking out what number to use!

Do you hand make paper crafts to place in your home for Christmas decorating?

I do…occasionally. And my girls are pretty crafty too! That’s why when they made these Christmas paper trees, I needed to take a picture and scrapbook this layout(I bet you thought I was going to share the trees, right? lol)

You can see in pictures on this page that they were quite excited about their finished product! Their trees are now in each of their rooms as part of their own room Christmas decor!

I created this tote bag yesterday (Sunday).I love the was it turned out. I took the traditional tote bag pattern and added a couple of extras like the word 'love' and the two ruffles. I plan on giving it to a special someone,for Christmas! But, I can't say who...

Yep…that’s how I feel about my dd…she’s a modern diva…and nothing can stop her. And this photo of her shows that diva-ness (if that’s even a word…lol)!

I also colored the background cardstock with lots of Mister Huey's! I love all the colors!

Good Thursday morning my scrapping friends! Welcome to my very first posting as LCOM Marketing Team member! I am over-the-moon excited to be a part of this team and I am equally excited to share my layout with you today! I was totally inspired by Michelle's post yesterday I hope my post will inspire you today too!

This month I choose the AWESOME Studio Calico products to play with! When I first heard about this company I originally thought, ‘hmmm..they put together amazing kits!’. But I soon came to learn that SC also creates so many fun, creative products as well – from paper, to mists, to diecuts…and so much more! Recently they have started partnering up with other companies too to create so much more fabulous product for us to add to our scrappy stash!

And…did you know that LCOM carries SO MUCH Studio Calico goodies at such a great price as well! So this is the reason I picked these products this month to play with! (Plus a few extra little things)

I created THIS layout using a picture of my younger daughter! Although, there are times when she is not so happy, she is often so full of giggles and grins and I wanted to capture this trait of her with this LO.

Here are my girls’ costumes this year!

I sewed them myself….and made one for Emilee’s friend too. They got so many comments on them last night. And the best thing I loved, was how they were a bit of brightness walking down the dark streets. They really stood out!

I’m already starting to think about ideas for next year’s costumes!

My Father-In-Law took these photos of Sara a few years back and I have always loved them. I actually had them scrapped before…waaaayyy back when I first started scrapbooking, but I didn’t really like how the LO looked so I re-scrapped it! Which is something I have not done very often.

A little Glee

I know I’m a bit behind in posting LOs I have created recently. But, I really think I have them all photographed, and I just need to edit and upload them. Here’s a LO I created while at the scrapbooking weekend with a bunch of lady friends last weekend! What a great time we had!

I created this one using the GLEE CLUB kit from Studio Calico! And I added a few little extras! Gotta love those Thickers!! I think I now have 3 different colors of this kind! lol But a girl can NEVER have too many Thickers…right?

Anyway, here’s my LO…before I head out to work again tonight! Then off for 5!! YAY!

And I realized AFTER that I forgot to ‘dot’ the ‘i’s! But…that’s ok…I think!

An update from me!

Hi blog readers…I realize it’s been a while since I’ve updated so here’s a little of what’s been happening with me lately.

Non-scrappy stuff

~ Still working fulltime and loving it!

~ Emilee and Sara are enjoying school this year (Emilee – Grade 6….wow! Did I just type that?) Sara is in Grade 5… we switched her over to English this year after she did immersion for the past 4 years. And she’s feeling so much more confident this year because of this. I’m hoping that her grades will improve too.

~ Dh and I are doing well…we’re trying to decide on whether or not to book a trip for the new year….or just use any extra money to fix up some stuff around the house….decisions…decision….

~ I’m busy working on sewing Christmas gifts (bags, quilts and hoping to get some more order for the tote bags that I make) I’m also working on some Halloween costumes as well. FUN FUN!

~ I am looking forward to Christmas time. And looking forward to dh and I possibly getting a night away for some shopping in November.

Scrappy Stuff

~ I’m putting the finishing touches on my first tutorial for Studio Bluemoon. Never did I realize that it was so much detail into putting together a video tutorial. lol

~ I’m playing with some goodies from LCOM to get ready for first reveal in November!!

~ I just returned from a weekend of scrapping where I had a lot of fun making new friends and chatting with already friends! I created 13 LOs and will show them off as soon as my camera batteries are charged.

13 years ago…I never thought this sort of thing would happen in our family.

March 30, 1943-October 16, 1998

….I lost my daddy…in a terrible car accident….it was the most devastating thing EVER.

13 years ago…I had no children of my own….so my girls have never gotten to personally know their poppy!

During the past 13 years….I have learned that we must use each moment of time to cherish our loved ones while they are with us on this earth.

The Cabinetmaker
Written by my Uncle Dale Penney (my mom's brother)

Through the open shop door, you can see him,
In an amber haze of oak dust;
Amid whirling saws and routers-
The cabinetmaker...
Surrounded by the tools of his trade
And a growing stack of rails and stiles
And raised panels.
The re-shaped oak, though bread and butter,
Is, to him the fruit of labor's love;
Right now, to another's eye, just bits and pieces,
But in his eye, a finished work of art.
That half-smile on his face gives lie
That this is work;
That's contentment - his labor also pleasure;
And satisfaction - in a job well started,
Assured of an end result that meets the designer's standard.
....and, now....
The tools lie idle and silent..
The dust has settled...
The cabinetmaker absent from his shop.
His own designer, it appears,
Is satisfied with this project, and has called him home.

iN The APplE TReE…

Yes….we went APPLE PICKING last weekend! And had lots of fun…as usual. And got LOTS of apples!

To recap our day…it was VERY crowded…..some apple trees were almost bare but we eventually found ones that still had lots of apples….we picked McIntosh apples….YUM!!….we picked a bushel and a half bushel….they were all out of fresh apple pie so we bought frozen ones to cook once we got home….we had a fun day out with family!

Thirty-Nine….

…that’s how old I am today!

I’m not sure if I’m exactly excited about it….but I don’t really mind it either. I have a feeling that 40 will be a little harder to swallow next year, though.

And I certainly don’t feel like almost 40. But then again…how does ‘almost 40’ really supposed to feel??

I have accomplished a lot in my 39 years. I have a beautiful family and an amazing job, beautiful home, great friends.

I am very blessed…and one cannot ask much more than that!

I went to an all weekend crop last weekend and it was so much fun. I thought I had almost forgotten how to scrapbook….but it seems I didn’t.

This girl….

Back to school 2011

Wow…I know I say it every year but this summer went waaayyy faster than it should have. Don’t get me wrong…I’ll be happy to have my mornings to myself once again but I will miss my girls too…and I miss summer already. Back to school this morning….

…which means back to busy schedule, homework, early to bed, early to rise, making lunches in the evenings, and then winter….(shudder..)

But for now, we’ll all just enjoy our last couple of weeks of nice weather and I’ll enjoy my mornings to have time to get back into scrapping, after a long lull period this summer! I’m itching to get scrapping again!

Curls like Mommy!

I have natural curly hair…..I have two daughters….but never did I expect either of my girls to be ~~cursed~~ blessed with a mass of curly hair like mine!

Each of my girls (who are now 9 and 10…soon to be 10 and 11) have always had straight hair….Sara’s has always been a little thicker and Emilee’s has always been very thin and with no bounce at all. I thought that if any of them would have my curls it would probably be Sara (because of her think hair that resembled my thick locks)

But…..this summer…something really strange happened to this young girl’s hair…

…her hair went from being super straight…with a slight curl at the ends…

to THIS…

I’m guessing it had something to do with hormones?? Maybe?

I just think it’s really pretty and the best thing is that she LOVES them! (although she still likes for me to straighten her hair occasionally.

It’s Finally Finished!

I’ve been taking a little break from scrapbooking since summer started. Not for any reason in particular….I think I just needed a break…

So, I decided to do a little bit of sewing! And decided to take on a QUILT project.

My initial inspiration came when I happened on this post by justem at Studio Calico. I took a look at the first link in the post and was immediately inspired by this quilt design at Cluck Cluck Sew.

So..I decided to take on a little project…

I used the assistance of my 10 year old daughter to cut out 140 circles! I then sewed them unto 140 5x5 squares. I then sandwiched some quilt batting inside the front fabric and flannel for the back and then became stuck on what to do next.

I attempted to ‘quilt’ each line across and down, but had difficulty keeping everything together. Then a friend of mine suggested using buttons to secure everything together and it WORKED!!

I ended up with a quilt that looks a little different than the one I was inspired by….and I’m completely happy with it!

And here is it! My VERY FIRST quilt!

I thought I’d do a little giveaway today in honor of my blog reaching 10,000 hits! It’s not quite there yet…but I’m sure it will get there after this posting! ;o)

Here’s what I’ve been up to for the past couple of days!

First of all I have to say that I initially thought I had just over 300 homeless layouts. Imagine my surprise when I actually got started putting them away!

Here’s what I started with:

Yep…a little overwhelming, hey?

Well…12 albums later (yes…I filled 12 albums with 20 per albums)….which means I put away 240 layouts! YIKES!

Here’s what I’m left with to still put away!

So…I did put a big dent in the homeless layout pile…but I still have ~~245~~…LOTS left to put away. I think I might just have to start investing in bigger albums. And…about 150 of those layouts are my very first pages….which are nice to look back at but I’m not really sure I NEED those in albums. kwim??

But..I’m proud for doing what I did! Now I think I’ll need a bigger shelving unit to put all my albums! lol

I’m (almost) a Runner!

Yep!! I officially started running on Monday. I started in a bit later in the program but I’m lovin’ it! Each week a group of ladies from my church meet to run…then we have to do our ~~homework~~ running at least 3 times within that next week to get ready to increase our running time the following Monday! So…since I worked 12 hour day shifts on Tuesday and Wednesday…this morning was my first chance to get out to run! And it was a beautiful sunny day too…how nice it was to listen to Chris Tomlin on my ipod and enjoy the hot sun on my face! I made it through all 5 sets of 3 mins running and 1 min walking…and it felt great!

My goal is to run again tomorrow and then again on Saturday! Then I’m all set for Monday….when the next step will be running 4 minutes and walking 1 min (4 sets). I think I’ll be ready this week!

My long term goal is this: Running a 5K on July 1st! Yay!

I’ll be keeping you all posted here on my blog with my progress!

Winner Winner Chicken dinner!

That’s what was announced today over at My Scrapbook Nook forum!!

I was the winner of the “Wild Things Crop”! I was so excited…and I would never have created so many LOs and cards this weekend had it not been for this crop and for the fact that I was away all weekend on the scrapbooking retreat! Scrapbook Nook really helped my creativity soar!

Back to reality…

…after a weekend of scrapbooking! I was away for ~~two nights~~ 3 nights of scrapbooking with friends! We ended up staying an extra night because we got an awesome rate on the hotel room AND because we have such amazing husbands!

I created more this weekend than I have ever created during any one weekend since I’ve started scrapbooking over 7 years ago! Wow!

And it’s because I was away…but also because I had such awesome inspiring challenges to keep me scrapping. The Scrapbook Nook hosted a NSD virtual crop this weekend….yep. can you say ‘PERFECT timing’…and the deadline was last night so it pushed me waaaayyy beyond my creativity limits! AND I am happy with EVERY LO I created!

I made: 23 layouts, 8 cards, and one altered item!

Over the next few posts I will be sharing some of the things I created!

Today I will share my very favorite LO from the entire weekend. This LO was made for a challenge to scraplift a LO by Sarah called “Kaci’s Boudoir” which can be found in this blog post!

Here’s what I came up with!

Good Thursday morning!

Just a quick post this am to show you a couple things I’m excited about!

FIRST….a couple of weeks ago I received a two emails from two DT members over at Studio Calico asking if they could each scraplift one of my LOs for their members lift feature for the month of May! How exciting is that?? Of course, I said yes!

However….because two of them asked me….and because they wanted to give another member a chance to be lifted too…(totally fair)…one of the DTs ended up choosing another member!

BUT….here’s the post today on Stephanie Howell's blog….SHE SCRAPLIFTED ME!! YAY!!

I should say that the LO she did scraplift was created inspired by a sketch by Emily Pitts on the Crate Paper blog! The design was not totally my idea! But….it’s still very awesome to be chosen!

Yep…it’s been waaayy too long! But..I have a great excuse!

We were enjoying LOTS of family time at Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach resort in Mexico!!

We say waaayyy too many lizards to even count….

And there’s nothing quite like eating all week but never having to prepare the food OR clean up afterwards!

My first Studio Calico Kit since re-subbing this past month!

LOVE it! I’m so glad I decided to sign up again! I’ve barely got a dent made in this kit and now the April kit is on it’s way!!

I have never created a page using a full calendar sheet and this one turned out exactly how I envisioned it!

I’ve been playing around with a lot of different sketch challenges lately! And I’ve been totally inspired by each that I’ve seen!

Studio Calico posted a sketch challenge on their BLOG a few days ago…and since I have a Studio Calico kit sitting right on my scrappy table, I figured I should give the sketch a try.

Now…keep in mind that I use sketches as inspiration and ~~sometimes~~ often they don’t turn out exactly like the sketch…but you can usually see how it inspired me.

Here’s the sketch…but I’ll flip it because that’s how it inspired me…

Here’s my LO…created with the March Studio Calico Kit!

Here’s a close-up of how I used the Studio Calico FAB-rips (which I can’t seem to find a link for in the store). Then I used my Glossy Accents to make one of the stars pop!

I also used Glossy Accents on the word ‘STAR’ in my title. These letters are Sassafras!

One more close-up! Check out these Studio Calico Die-cut stickers!! AWESOME! That’s where my orange inspiration came from!

I got THIS in the mail last week….and I am just getting a chance to play a little with it now! LOVE LOVE Crate Paper’s new product lines!!

Esp. Emma's Shoppe! This Scrapbook Nook kit had almost everything….the only thing it missed was the Emma’s Shoppe Alpha letters!

And….then, imagine how excited I was to see that Emily Pitts had posted another monthly sketch! And I just had to do it! Actually, I ended up making two LOs inspired by this sketch that she posted!

I hope you see the resemblance somewhat! I find it hard to do sketches identical to the original. I guess the whole purpose though…is to let it inspire….right? lol

I created this LO using lots of Jillibean Soup Circle numbers!! LOVE these!

I decided to create a top 10 favorites because that’s what I was challenged to do at Let's Capture Our Memories Big Brother contest!

I love how this turned out!

And…just a side note…I applied for the Jillibean Soup DT call! I’m crossing my fingers! I really hope this one’s for me!

Well, imagine my surprise when I saw this posted on the Crate Paper Blog! This is my first time ever being recognized like this on a big manufacturer’s blog!! I didn’t win but I was an honourable mention!! YAY!

SNOW, snow….and more snow….

Yes…we had ANOTHER snow storm yesterday!!

Another 40cm plus of snow fell and blew all over Moncton.

I am very sick and tired of the snow…

But…it does look pretty!

And remember this photo I shared back on Jan31?

I though this was a lot of snow…

Here’s what the view from our front door looks like NOW…

Just to understand this photo a little more….

My husband is 6ft 2 and when he’s standing on out walkway..the you can see in the bottom left of this pic….he CANNOT see over this pile of snow to the neighbour’s house!!

DH dug out a little bunker for the girls to play. They are building a tunnel now!

Summer on the brain….

I’ve been creating sooo many summer LOs lately!! I’m so sick of the snow! And we just got another 40 cm tonight!! YUK!

Creating these summery LOs really help cheer me up!

Here’s one I did yesterday using a ton of Jillibean Soup goodies!

I misted the Journalling Sprouts and then shiffted them a little to expose the white behind! I think it look cool!

I decided to keep the design simple…’cause that’s what I like doing lately!

And used these Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type letters and the color matched just perfectly!

Those letters used for the “TODAY” are Baked Beans Alpha Beans from Jillibean!! LOVE them!

And the quote I used for the title goes like this, “Tomorrow may rain…today I’ll follow the Sun”. Isn’t that the greatest?? It’s tweaked a little, but it comes from a Beatles song!

Crate Paper Sketch Challenge

I found a neat challenge over at the Crate paper blog a few days ago and decided to give it a try! Since I DO love sketches and I DO love Crate Paper!

Here’s the sketch that Emily Pitts created!

And here’s My LO I created…inspired by the sketch! With lot’s of Crate Paper goodness, I should add!

Do you like it? I am pleased with how it turned out!

But…before I sign off for today and get ready for my girlies to come home…I wanted to share something a little fun!

Do you see how bright and cheerful the colors are in my LO above? Well…it doesn’t start off like that. I will share today how my LO evolves from the SOOC photo to the finished product!

I will start by telling you that I have a Canon S51S Powershot camera. Nothing fancy. And I use Corel Paint Shoppe Pro for editing my scrapbook images. (I also have Lightroom, but use that for all my other photo editing)

Here’s how the LO looked SOOC. This picture was taken using natural light from a big window in my kitchen.

Not the nicest, hey?

Here’s how it evolves!

I resize it to resolution of 72 and pixel width of 550. The height is set to automatically adjust to that width.

This just adjusts the white balance a little.

The finished product once again!

So..as you can see…it’s a little time consuming doing this, but I’m used to it now and it usually goes pretty quickly!

I also adjust all my closeup shots too!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little look into my editing process!

Don’t rain on my parade

I found this blog last night while surfing around on my break at work! It hit close to home because so often there are so many people trying to rain on your parade especially when it comes to raising and dealing with children.

And….because I’ve been scrapping lately, here’s a LO I did for a combination of challenges. I created it for the Big Brother contest over at Let's Capture our Memories and for my inspiration I used this sketch for the design team call over at Pencil Lines.

The challenge for the contest was to create a LO about someone you love. LO must include misting, bling, the word love, and a heart! Can you see all those elements?

Did you notice that I used lots of Webster’s Pages goodies? I create this LO using the Feb kit from Scrapbook Nook.
